If it doesn’t work either, then go with fixes below. Note: Before we go, plug your headset into different USB ports and replace your USB headset with another one to check if the issue is due to headset. Run the Hardware Devices troubleshooter.Do not plug your USB headset while Windows 10 is booting. Here you’ll be relieved to know it’s possible to fix. See what driver Microsoft thinks is the correct on for your machine. No sound from your USB headset? No worries. Try uninstalling the speakers and headphones in Device Manager then scan for hardware changes. That seems to work just fine on both my speakers and headphones. At some point the automatic Windows update replaced that with the generic Microsoft High Definition Audio Device. When mine took the free upgrade to Windows 10 a Microsoft-supplied Conexant SmartAudio HD driver was installed. I wouldn't trust drivers from a third party like Softpedia because there's no way to tell if they are the specific ones designed for your model. Add to that the fact that for older Toshiba models not supported for Windows 10 the official Toshiba drivers haven't been updated beyond Win8 and you are on a loosing streak. As a consequence finding the right driver (also model-specific) is near impossible. The problem with Toshiba and Conexant is that the chip came in so many flavours, each designed for the model it was used in. I have a Toshiba L750 which also has a Conexant chip. Sound still works fine without headphones, but isn't working with them, and the headphones are still not showing up in the Playback devices. I've run out of ideas, any help is appreciated.

Uninstalling Conexant from Device Manager, restarting, and Googling latest drivers for my device (which I got from here: Download Toshiba Conexant SmartAudio HD Driver 8.66.6.52 for Windows 7, Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 8.1 64 bit, Windows 10, Windows 10 64 bit), download and installing those. Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> right-click Conexant SmartAudio HD -> Properties -> Drivers -> Update drivers -> Restart

Right-click sound icon -> Playback devices -> ? (no headphones showing) Right-click sound icon -> troubleshoot sound problems Conexant SmartAudio HD is working with my laptop speakers but not my headphones.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop using Windows 10.
